The pattern
The art of Italian living
Sofia reads as ease rather than display. The marquetry is cut from naturally toned woods and laid by hand, the hardware is golden, and the proportions are settled rather than styled. Five coats of lacquer are polished over the surface, one at a time, until the joins between the woods disappear under the hand.
It is the only pattern the workshop carries across five objects: a jewelry box in three sizes, a backgammon set in travel and full size, a chess box, a cedar-lined cigar humidor and a desk frame. A room can be furnished in Sofia alone.
