The Sofia Chess Box is inlaid square by square: the playing surface and the case are one piece of Sorrento marquetry, closed with golden hinges, a secure lock and a metal plate with the Ercolano mark. Chess board and pieces are included.
Cut, inlaid, lacquered and polished by hand in the Sorrento workshop of Giuseppe Ercolano. Three generations on, the method has not changed.
