How a box comes to life
Every jewelry box, humidor and game set that leaves our Sorrento workshop follows the same path it has followed for three generations: seasoned wood, patient hands, and no shortcuts.
01 — The Wood
It begins with the grain
We select walnut, maple, rosewood and other fine hardwoods for their figure and stability, then let them season slowly until they are ready to be worked. A box is a structure that must open and close perfectly for decades — the wood decides everything, so we give it time.
02 — The Marquetry
Inlaid by hand, piece by piece
Sorrento's intarsio tradition lives in the lid. Thin veneers of contrasting woods are cut, assembled and inlaid by hand to form each motif — a geometric border, a floral spray, a pattern that belongs to one collection alone. No two lids are ever truly identical.
03 — The Finish
Layer upon layer of lacquer
The assembled surfaces are sealed and lacquered in successive coats, each one cured and polished before the next. The result is the deep, glass-like finish our boxes are known for — a surface that protects the marquetry and rewards the light.
04 — The Interior
Built for what it will hold
A jewelry box is lined in soft velvet and fitted with lift-out trays; a humidor receives its cedar interior; a chessboard is squared and levelled by eye and by hand. Hinges, locks and keys are fitted individually, so every lid settles with the same quiet, precise close.
05 — The Last Look
Inspected, signed off, sent
Before a piece leaves Sorrento it is opened, closed, turned in the light and checked one final time. Only then is it wrapped and packed for its journey — from our workshop bench to your home, anywhere in the world.
